Finished Objects 2006

January:

scarf for J
pattern: from Phildar
yarn: Bowling and Peluche by Phildar
(color: Vitrail) (color: denim),

size needles: 5 mm
bought at Phildar LYS in Velizy
care: machine wash
knitting time: 2 days knitting
knitting fun: fun and fast to knit, a super project to pick up knitting again after quite some time

I did make the scarf, the hat is a gift from his godmother, though (and I think they look cute together!). He loves both!

cardigan size 12 months for F
pattern from Anny Blatt
yarn by Bouton d'Or: 5 skeins of Laika (100% wool, superwash), 2 skeins of fun fur,

color: red/orange/pink variegated for the wool, and light pink for the fun fur,
bought at the LYS around the corner in Paris
size needles: 5 mm
care: machine wash
knitting time: 2 days knitting (in the train)
knitting fun: fun and fast to knit! but a pain to seam the fun fur

February

Poncho for baby J and mother
pattern from here plus modifications (second head hole for baby, and crocheted laces to close it if mother is on her own and/or child actually walks by himself)
yarn: Variations by Phildar
color: Fjord (discontinued, blue/green/wool white/grey),

bought at: the LYS in Velizy
size needles: 7 mm
care: machine wash
knitting time: 2 weeks knitting
knitting fun: wool split easily, was a pain to knit

In the mood vest, including ingenuous scarf
pattern: knitty
yarn: Lara by GGH, 90% wool, 10% nylon

color: 14 (bordeaux red)
bought at: an online store in Germany (can't remember which),
size needles:
7 mm
care: hand wash
knitting time
: 2 days knitting
knitting fun:
novelty yarn cut into my left hand fingers: was a very quick knit, but nevertheless a pain. A dream as to finishing: none at all!

March

Socks for Two Year old
pattern none really, that is, I got the heel and toe from Weekend Knitting
yarn: Benjamin by La Droguerie, Paris + Mohair by Bergers de Cathares for strengthening in heel and toe
color: three blues and two reds

bought at: La Droguerie, Paris
size needles: 4,5 mm
care: I am not so sure
knitting time: 3 weeks knitting
knitting fun: ok, I found it nice to knit with a bamboo set of DPNs (my first!), however, I found the weaving in of the ends very very boring!

Hat for Two Year old
pattern my own
yarn: Benjamin by La Droguerie, Paris
color: three blues and two reds

bought at: La Droguerie, Paris
size needles: 4,5 mm and 4 mm (since my 4,5mm circular was not the right length...)
care: I am not so sure
knitting time: 3 or 4 days knitting
knitting fun: okish (too much frogging). I thought it was great fun to do the spiralling stripes! And no weaving in of ends at all!

Voodoo Wrist Warmers for myself
pattern: modified knitty (
a spiraling k3 p2 rib)
yarn: Junghans 6fach Trekking
color: "Rinde"

bought at: Junghanswolle.de
size needles: 4.5 mm
care: machine wash
knitting time: don't remember (something like a week or less)
knitting fun: ok for the first one, but: I had to (well, I did, anyway) break and join the yarn 4 times on the second one to try to make them match more or less. Turned out there was a knot in the skein, and the colorway was reversed from that point!

Itty Bitty Bears
pattern:
from Interweave Knits Summer 05
yarn: odds and ends of sock yarn
color: pink, orange, green, grey, brown...

bought at: several
size needles: 4.5 mm and 2.5 mm
care: machine wash
knitting time: about 45 minutes per bear for the last three... a looooot longer for the first couple of them!
knitting fun: These are really great fun and quick to knit!

April

Chemo Cap for Y (pic to come soon)
pattern from head huggers
yarn: Teddy by Bergere de France
color: bright turquoise, they call it "Jasmine" (really funny coincidence!)

bought at: mail order from Bergere de France
size needles: 5 mm
care: machine wash
knitting time: 1 evening, about 4 or 5 hours
knitting fun: argh: fun loop yarn!!! never sure whether the needle was in the stitch or in a loop only... and cut into my left hand guiding the yarn badly.

Devan for J
pattern knitty
yarn: Opal Sock Yarn
color:
Colors: black/white, yellow, blue, red (Color 1305) and solid yellow
bought at: mail order from Handarbeiten und Kosmetik
size needles: 2 mm for the borders and 2.5 mm for the body, exactly on gauge (.5 mm smaller than pattern)
care: machine wash
knitting time: 2 weeks and one day incl. assembly (March 31 through April 16)
knitting fun: I liked the pattern taking form on the self-striping parts. I hated the back in one color. I like the look of the intarsia detail on the back, I hated making it, and it still has border stitches all wonky despite my efforts at blocking. I hated knitting against the clock for birthday timing... Will try to avoid that in the future.
