Baby Socks finished (and Hat)

I have finished Socks (also count as my April socks for Knittin Mom's 6 Sockalong) and matching Baby Hat (I hope that both will fit a 9 month old? As the matching cardigan is done in the 9-month size. Ah well, the cardigan: still need to finish the sleeve and do the seaming. Argh.) Actually, the hat has been finished for a while, but I did not want to post on its own. New techniques learned is the "boomerang" heel on the socks. Also for the hat, I somehow did not read the instructions well or whatever, anyhow: I ended up with this lovely pointy hat. I think it's most beautiful if only a bit strange.

Babysocks and Hat to match Baby Cardigan (size 9 months, hopefully) for K+P's baby-to-be
pattern:
Opal Baby Set
yarn:
Lana Grossa Meilenweit
color: pink, orange, green and some white (Trend Farbe 6060)
bought at: mail order from Die Stricknadel
size needles: 2.5 mm Inox for the hat borders and 2.75 mm Brittany for the socks
care: machine wash
knitting time: March 28 to April 20 (3 weeks)
knitting fun: I liked the self-striping yarn's pattern growing differently on the hat and the socks. I really liked the boomerang (short row without wrapping) heel. There was not a single knot in either of the two balls. And I loooove the colors. Ah, and I really like the wooden DPNs! I now wish I had them in every size, but then I also notice that different yarn needs different needles to really glide along nicely.
new techniques learnt: boomerang heel. And gathering the last 8 stitches at the toe instead of grafting. (not sure whether I like that)

Kerchief Scarf for A.
pattern: Last Minute Knitted Gifts
yarn:
LPPCoton
color: really colorful: turquoise, yellow, pink, orange, green (Perroquet)
bought at: mail order from Les Laines
size needles: 3 mm Addi bamboo circs
care: machine wash
knitting time: 5 days
knitting fun: I really liked knitting this! the yarn, the colors, everything.
new techniques learnt: I did try to knit English on part of this, mainly because my left wrist hurt. (I still need to perfect this, as I move my whole right hand where I think it would be sufficient to just move my right index finger for wrapping)

I swatched yesterday for Shedir and cast on today at lunch break and am just starting the cables. And I learned cabling without a cabling needle. It's amazingly simple, and I don't run the risk of losing my cable needle (nor poke anyone with it, remember I do some of my knitting while breastfeeding). I just looooove the yarn: Rowan Calmer is yummily soft, springy, and wonderful to knit. It shows the cables beautifully. I think I will have a hard time ever knitting any other cotton again!

This bag holds a great surprise gift I got today!

My downstairs neighbor is a real sweetie: when she saw me knit in the cafe around the corner the other day, she told me about her knitting a lot in the past. Apparently, she had started working life as a brodeuse and also did a lot of knitting. And then she went on to say that she would give me her knitting needles and knitting books. She is over 70 years old, and her eyesight is too bad for her to continue knitting. So tonight, she had me come in and we
had a glass of porto, and she gave a huge bag to me: look! It has knitting magazines from the sixties and seventies, some lovely red acrylic that I'm morally obliged to make into a sweater for J, and tons of different sizes straights. I especially love the 20 mm ones! The patterns are hilarious, but I looove them!

I love the hat and socks, they look really sweet. The colours make a change from washed out pastels.

Boomerang heel ? This is very intriguing... Got to google this.

The little hat and socks are so cute, such fun, cheerful colors.
